NYX Lip lingerie swatch and review

Tuesday, June 13, 2017

Ever since NYX launched their Lip Lingerie's, I've been wanting to get my hands on the product.

My love for their Soft Matte Creams left me sure that I would love it. When I finally crawled out of my selective lazy hole to submit to cosmetics capitalism and buy this product, I waited weeks till I had the time to open it and pen a review for first impressions.

I'm not impressed.

Color: My lip lingerie is in Teddy. The color is beautiful and pigmented! The shade Teddy does exactly what I wanted and expected it to do. I personally wanted a close-to-tone-matte lip and when I first swatched the product, I was content.

Consistency/Product Texture: I would say that the product is medium/thick and it's easy to apply, however it does dry fast.

Dryness: This category is what broke the product's value for me. Whenever I use matte products, I always make sure to exfoliate, moisturize, and prime my lips before application. While I do know that, matte leads to dryness at times I try to avoid that as much as possible. With NYX's Lip Lingerie in Teddy, my fool proof route seemed to fail. The minute the lippie coat set, the product settled into the lines of my mouth and left me feeling very uncomfortable. Thinking it was just the way I applied the product, I tried to put on another coat, then a third, but the moisture left and the lip set, the dryness was there to stay

I basically kept the product on for about 30 minutes before taking it off and applying something else before I had to go to work, which is why I was not able to test out the last factor.

Personally, I would'nt buy this again. There are many other products that will allow me to achieve the same look for more comfort- a color from the soft matte lip line could do the job.

While NYX Lip Lingerie's were all the buzz when they launched, I feel as though they are overhyped.

Till next time,

5 things to binge on Netflix

Wednesday, May 31, 2017

With summer in full swing, it's officially binge watching season and to help your Netflix endeavors I've decided to present a list of the Netflix recommendations that have kept my hooked. I know that by now we all have long, daunting 'lists' to get through but adding these 5 shows and movies to your list will make it ten times better.

A lot of these things have already been raved about, but I'm here to cement the cinematic importance of each.

The Get Down

Oh, the Get Down. I normally wouldn't recommend canceled shows to people as I know how frustrating it is to not know how the story ends. When I recently found out that Netflix wasn't going to continue carrying this series I was devastated- Part II of the series left on a good note but still there were a lot of loose ends. However, for what it's worth, the story that we do get to see is worth every second. The Get Down is set in the late 1970s when disco slowly lost its buzz and hip-hop rose in New York. The story line follows a group of young Black and Hispanic teens struggling through their love of South Bronx and their dream to get out of it. Their pride, goals, and integrity are constantly questioned as they navigate the dangerous and unsure atmosphere around them through music, dance, and love. The Get Down will move you.

Jane the Virgin

Jane the Virgin is a hilarious take on a very modern day family. A CW show, Jane the Virgin is shot through the lens of a telenovela. Jane's story starts off as she is artificially inseminated at a trip to the gyno. From there Jane and her family are catapulted into a life of drama, suspense, and diapers as a dodgy hotel deals unfold and a love triangle make things complicated. It's definitely worth the time and will make you laugh! (As an extra bonus: It doesn't hurt that it exposes you to Spanish if you are currently in classes like me.)

Clown is the only movie that's gonna be on this list. It's also the only thing with horror involved so beware. Clown starts off lighthearted. Basic, white American family planning a birthday party for their only son? Nothing can go wrong, right? Well, the son is obsessed with clowns. Unfortunately, the clown they hired for the event called off the day of. The dad, a well-meaning real estate entrepreneur, happened to come across an abandoned clown costume in one of his properties and decided to dress up and bring back spirits. Little did he know that the suit was cursed. I don't want to blow too many details but basically, don't watch this at night or alone.

Riverdale! Call me basic, but I'm obsessed with this show. When it aired on the CW, I was away for college so I couldn't tune in. Riverdale was the first thing I binged as when school came to an end and boy am I glad. Riverdale is a modern day take on the Archie comics and it encompasses the whole gang with a few tweaks here and there. Josie and the Pussycats even make a few cameos. The story starts off with Veronica and her mother moving to the small town in order to escape scandal. Instead, they step right in the middle of it. When Roni makes her appearance, Riverdale is still shaken by the Blossom murder and suspicions are riding high. Naturally, the iconic foursome- involving Veronica, Betty, Archie, and Jug Head forms- forms to bring to light the real culprit of the murder and the story follows their lives while doing so. I sincerely can't wait until the next season.

Dear White People

Last, but certainly not least, Dear White People. I have no doubt that you've all heard of this one considering it caused major controversy all of the internet. Of course, if you judge a show by its title and you also refuse to look at the world through eyes unlike your own, the show and its title will rub you the wrong way. However, if not this show is for you. Being a black person in America is hard, but it's ten times harder if you are a college student at a PWI and Dear White People showcases our struggles masterfully. The one thing that I love the most about this show is that they don't typecast us. It shows Black people coming together as a whole through the Black Student Union, but it also showcases the individual. The jock, the pretty girl, the nerd, the African, the SJW, and the token- Dear White People makes sure to showcase that all Black People are not same. Even so, when scandal ensues as a frat throws a Black Face Party, the crew struggles to fight against the stereotypes as their voices get drowned out by the majority and written off as nonsensical complaining. Dear White People is not only for Black People, in fact, that's the point of the show. (I was actually put on to this by a Latina friend of mine.) Dear White People is for everyone and, the way I see it, the only reason why a person would be rubbed the wrong way by this show is if they are doing something wrong.

Anyway, those are the 5 Netflix recommendations that I always make! I personally found all of these things super enjoyable to watch. Let me know if you have any recommendations.

Until next time,

Victoria xx

Hello beautiful people!

I've decided to grace youtube with a thrift haul! Before you watch this video make sure to check out my previous video where I detailed 25 facts about me:

Thrift culture is getting real and I'm here for it. I remember having to thrift as a child and being ashamed about the fact. The stigma of being less fortunate when I was younger was something that I struggled with, especially due to the fact that Adidas and Abercrombie was a hit when I was younger Now that this is a trend let's not forget the stigma and classism that used to plague it! Here's the video:

Anyway, I managed to snag some really neat finds and deals at my local thrift store.

  • The first thing that I thrifted is a floral dress from Forever 21. Simple cute and flirty for the summer.
  • The second item that I got from the thrift store is a slimming floral bodycon dress from xhilaration.
  • The third thing I got from the thrift store was a black pantsuit from XOXO. It has lace sleeve and little hooks that you can loop a belt through.
  • My fourth thrift store find is a simple, black spaghetti strap dress from Old Navy.
  • My last and favorite find is an ice blue wind breaker from Russell Athletic Wear.

I hope that you enjoy this video! If so please remember to like, comment, and subscribe so you can be updated on other summer thrift hauls and videos that I do. Also, leave a comment below describing your favorite thing to wear in the summer.

Until next time,

Victoria xx

Hello beauties!

As we near the second half of the year of 2017, I thought that it was the perfect time to bring out this beauty.

This palette- The BH Cosmetics Blushed Neutrals 26 Color Eyeshadow and Blush Palette- is one that I had actually received for Christmas about 6 months ago. As you can see, it is untouched.

When I was away at college, I was obviously swamped with school work and responsibilities. I desperately wanted to write this blog post, but with no time, I saved it for now. It took so much willpower to not touch it, especially as I grew tired of the palettes I have open, but alas I was successful.

The BH Cosmetics Blush Neutral palette is just as the title describes, however when I first opened it I noticed the major difference between the cover sleeve of the product and the product its self.

The cover sleeve appears to showcase much richer tones...

Whereas the actual palette leans on the more pale side...

I was slightly panicked by this as a darker-skinned African-American woman. I usually tend to go for deeper colors as I'm sure they will pick up on my skin tone. Anyway, I set off swatching it. Here's a grid of the BH Cosmetics Blush Neutral palette to help you distinguish my swatches. Just a heads up from left to right the swatching goes from 7-1. So the number ones are closest to my wrist. I didn't line up the numbers to the blushes, but you get the drift.

Row A:

For Row A, I tried to go the pro-IG makeup swatcher route.  As my lines were crooked and uneven and I felt like I was wasting tons of tape, I decided to ditch that method and do it the old fashion way.

Row B:

Row C:

Row D- The Blushes:

I apologize for the horrid lighting! I'm currently trying to get back on my blogging mojo. Onto the review!

Pigmentation: Where the BH Cosmetics Blush Neutral palette doesn't really match the richness of the cover film, it makes up for it in the product pigmentation. Though some colors were particularly light, they still showed up on my dark brown skin. I didn't put any primer on my arm so I expect the outcome to be even better when I actually do my makeup.

Consistency: The product spread on my skin surprisingly smooth. The darker colors were like butter, whereas the lighter ones were *slightly* more chalky. Out of all the colors that I swatched, I would say the worst one, if you can call it that, would be 1D- the very light "blush". It took about two tries to get the color and opaqueness shown in the picture.

~Side note on that "blush" color: I'm failing to think of a single person who would wear it as a blush. Even on the palest of people, it would look weird. It has a tan tint to it that honestly resembles a person's skin color or face powder, not a blush. I can probably make use of it as an eyeshadow base or- and this is a big reach- a baking powder. We'll see what I come up with. ~

Case Quality: The BH Cosmetics Blush Neutral Palette has a standard black, hard plastic case. It feels kind of cheap, but it aligns with the price of the palette. The case opens through a fold and has a snap in order to ensure it is closed. There is no mirror in the palette.

Price and Value: The retail price of the palette is $13.99, but right now it's on sale for $9.09 on the website. Seeing as you get a full palette, that has a net weight of 1.57 of the product, for less than $15, I would say that this is a great deal. Of course, there are other neutral palettes out there that are interchangeable with this one but, nonetheless, this is a good basic palette to have in your collection.

As of now I've only swatched my BH Cosmetics Blush Neutral palette but I can't wait to delve into it and see the types of looks I can achieve.

Do you have a BH Cosmetics Palette? If so, comment below the one you have and what you love about it!

I'll talk to y'all soon!

How I Get Free Products to Review

Friday, May 12, 2017

So I came home to a pretty little pink package from Influenster...

If you didn't already know, Influenster is a source for honest product reviews. The site operates in a way that benefits everyone. Basically, in exchange for your reviews and your social influence, you receive free products. It's a free program that anyone can join and it doesn't take long before you are a part of a Voxbox campaign. Of course, the more high-end products are reserved for those with more influence but you can still receive stuff if you have a more modest following.

My total "social score" adds up to 2,494, which is not a lot in the grand scheme of things. I also have a low engagement trend but, even so, I manage to get offered a new Voxbox at least once a month.

Influenster is a great program for beauties on a budget. I filmed an unboxing video featuring the IVY Voxbox that I received. And you can check it out here:

*Not sponsored. Received products for free.*

Anyway, it's summer! So I hope to be more active on my blog and youtube channel. Until then,

Can We Talk New Music?

Tuesday, March 28, 2017

Halsey: My bae. My wife. My muse. Not to be one of those music geeks, but I've been following Halsey since her EP release and god am I proud. Her songs New Americana, a 2016 summer classic, Castle, which is featured on the Huntsman: Winter's War, her feature on Justin Bieber's The Feeling, and Closer, which was a collab with the Chainsmokers. Needless to say, when Halsey posted this photo on twitter...
...and girl I died. The release date for Hopeless Fountain Kingdom is June 2 and I honestly can't wait for it and Halsey's new tour that will obviously come after. I went from the back of the Newport to the third row of James Pavilion at Nautica and, if third time's a charm, I'm hoping that this time around I will be front and center (especially for "Is there somewhere" which is when she semi-crowd surfs). Visibly seeing her arenas grow from my time with her in 2015 is a tradition I plan on keeping and with her success, so far I feel like a proud mum.
Paramore: Call me mall goth but Paramore will forever be the goat. My senior year English teacher, Mr. Gerding agrees. He'd constantly compliment my phone screen when I had them on it. Paramore has been a band for 10-11 years and it's still going strong.  It doesn't even need to be said that I'm looking forward to #5. I'm just hoping they'll stop by Columbus because they didn't in their "Writing the Future" tour. (Gerding traveled across the state border to see them. That literally will be me.)

Lorde : Girl, we have been waiting since 2013 wtf. Green Light and Liability are bops af. Her new album, Melodrama is said to drop June 16th. Lorde is queen so enough said.

The 1975: Last Month or so, their socials were flooded with brown and tan pictures which strayed from their current neon pink and blue theme that goes with the ILIWYSFYSSBYSUOI album. From there we were told that the new album's name would be "Music for Cars" and it's due for 2018. It's a bummer due to my concert being on June 3rd (a day after Halsey's album drop. I'm going to be overloaded with great music in June, bless.), however, that means more tours! They recently dropped a cover of Sade's "By Your Side". Hopefully, they'll drop some more singles before the summer. I'm gonna need that set list to grow.

Ed Sheeran: Man oh man. My love, Teddy. Ed released his third studio album on March 3rd and I've been listening to If you haven't already sat through the Divide album song by song please do yourself a favor and give yourself about two hours to do so. My personal favorites are Dive, Save Myself, Barcelona, Bibia Be Ye Ye, and Supermarket Flowers. He is coming to Columbus in the fall and I wanted to buy front row tickets but that price tag climbed to the thousands and I'm not rich. I do plan on scoring ticks in the summer after I work my butt off for paychecks, but whether or not they will be nose bleeds or on the floor will remain unknown until then. Maybe with time the prices will decrease? Pray for me.

Anyway, those are the jams I'm looking forward to. If you don't like any of these musicians, I hope that 2017 will be a good year of music for you as well.
